The Perfect Velvet Ring Boxes
Our story begins last Summer 2016 , when we three sisters Natalie, Georgiana & Clare decided to launch these adorable pretty boxes to the UK. We saw so many brides in England wanting to have these collectable velvet ring boxes for their wedding day we decided to help out and launch our collection. These pretty boxes have been around long before our great great grandparents. These petite boxes are from an era of when craftsmanship was at it’s best. These velvet ring boxes pre date the 1900’s,and it’s now an heirloom to warrant love and attention. Not only that we believe these velvet engagement ring heirlooms should no longer be hidden in that top drawer, but should be on display keeping your prized beauty of a ring safe. We created our first Decadent Collection in a rainbow of delicious colors from English velvet, sourced from mills that have been in existence for over 100 years! How is that for in keeping with these vintage inspired ring boxes. Because the velvet comes in so many hues and colours each collection is therefore limited.

History Of The Engagement Ring
What about the history of the engagement ring though. We have pretty velvet boxes to place your wedding and engagement rings but we asked ourselves when & why did the exchange of these rings between two lovers come into existence? We did a little research and found that their are some delightful and intriguing historic stories behind the token of the engagement ring.
Wikipedia as always has a wealth of knowledge and states some delightful facts. Did you know?
In many countries, engagement rings are placed on the ring finger of the left hand. At one time it was believed that this finger contained a vein that led to the heart.
The first well-documented use of a diamond ring to signify engagement was by the Archduke Maximilian of Austria in imperial court of Vienna in 1477, upon his betrothal to Mary of Burgundy. This then influenced those of higher social class and of significant wealth to give diamond rings to their loved ones.
The Modern History Of The Diamond Ring
The US Gem Society writes “In 1947, De Beers launched its now classic slogan, “A Diamond is Forever.” This campaign spurred even more sales. The implied durability of a diamond conveyed the meaning in the American psyche that marriage is forever. A diamond’s purity and sparkle have now become symbols of the depth of a man’s commitment to the woman he loves in practically all corners of the world.” Wow that is romantic!!
Harry Winston Engagement Ring
Our favorite story of all is by Mr Harry Winston himself.
“In 1968, the world watched in wonder as the cleaving of the 601-carat Lesotho diamond was broadcast on live television. Recently purchased by Mr. Harry Winston himself, the magnificent rough stone yielded 18 separate and stunning diamonds. One of these remarkable gems – the 40.42-carat Lesotho Three – would end up becoming one of the century’s most incredible engagement rings, when the breathtaking Harry Winston creation was purchased by Aristotle Onassis for Jacqueline Kennedy.”
We love the story of Jackie Kennedy who we view as America’s queen and we are always in awe of Harry Winston I mean who isn’t.
